Height Calculator
Convert height between feet & inches, centimeters, meters, and inches with consistent rounding and normalization. If you’re checking eligibility or standards, you can also use the Army height and weight calculator.

What you’ll get
- Normalized feet & inches (inches always 0–11)
- Total inches, centimeters (2 decimals), meters (3 decimals)
- Step-by-step math using exact conversion constants

How it works
This Height Calculator converts everything through total inches, then derives centimeters and meters. It’s useful for forms, medical charts, and fitness tracking in the Health & Fitness category. If you want related tools, see All Calculators.
- ft = feet, in = inches, cm = centimeters, m = meters
- Total inches = ft × 12 + in
- Centimeters = total inches × 2.54 (exact)
- Meters = cm ÷ 100
Normalization: any inches are converted so the final display is always X ft Y in with Y between 0 and 11. Rounding: cm to 2 decimals, meters to 3 decimals, and inches to 1 decimal only when needed.
Use cases
- Convert a clinic’s centimeter measurement into feet & inches for everyday use
- Fill out forms that require inches or meters
- Compare shoe, clothing, or equipment sizing charts that list height differently
- Track growth or fitness progress with consistent units
- Check standard tables (for example, military screening) using the same normalized format
Examples
Example 1: 5 ft 9 in
Inputs: ft = 5, in = 9
Total inches = 5×12 + 9 = 69
cm = 69×2.54 = 175.26, m = 1.7526 → 1.753
Example 2: 175 cm
Inputs: 175 cm
Total inches = 175 ÷ 2.54 = 68.8976…
Normalized ≈ 5 ft 8.9 in (displayed as 5 ft 8.9 in)
Example 3: 1.80 m
Inputs: 1.80 m → 180 cm
Total inches = 180 ÷ 2.54 = 70.866…
Normalized ≈ 5 ft 10.9 in
Common Mistakes
- Entering negative values (height can’t be below zero)
- Mixing up meters and centimeters (1.75 m = 175 cm)
- Typing inches above 11 and forgetting to normalize (e.g., 5 ft 14 in = 6 ft 2 in)
- Rounding too early before converting (keep precision, round at the end)
- Using approximate constants instead of 2.54 cm per inch (this page uses the exact value)
Quick Tips
- If you have feet & inches, convert to total inches first for clean math
- For cm to ft/in, divide by 2.54 to get inches, then split by 12
- Use meters when a form asks for SI units; use cm for clinical charts
- If your inches input is high, it will auto-normalize to the correct feet & inches
- Copy buttons in the results help you paste values into forms without retyping
